The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has announced a major leadership change following the resignation of its Director General, Eng. Philemon Kandie, MBS. The resignation took effect today, Friday, July 11, 2025.

In a statement released by the Authority, Anthony Ng’ang’a Mwaura, the Board Chairman, confirmed that Eng. Kandie has stepped down from his position, bringing to a close his tenure as the head of the organisation.

His departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the Authority, with the Board of Directors expressing deep appreciation for his dedicated service and the critical role he has played in steering rural infrastructure development across the country.

“The Board of Directors would like to appreciate the outgoing Director General for his invaluable service and contribution to the Authority,” the statement reads in part.

In the wake of Eng. Kandie’s resignation, the Authority has appointed Eng. Jackson K. Magondu as the acting Director General to ensure continuity of leadership.

"The Board of Directors, in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Transport, wishes to inform that Eng. Jackson K. Magondu (Director Planning, Design and Environment) has been appointed to the Office of the Director General on acting capacity with effect from Friday, July 11, 2025," said KeRRA.

The move comes after a petition was filed at the High Court seeking the removal of Kandie over allegations that he financed and coordinated violent, politically motivated protests that swept across the country in June 2025.

The petitioner, Wahome Mucunu, who says she is a concerned citizen and advocate of constitutional governance, claims the senior public officer used his position to funnel state funds through shell companies and contractors linked to KeRRA to support a campaign allegedly spearheaded by former DP Gachagua.
