At least 25 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Monday as Israel continued its intense military campaign in Gaza despite the United States pushing for a ceasefire.

Gaza health authorities reported that 10 of the dead were in Zeitoun, a neighbourhood in southern Gaza City, while two others lost their lives near an aid distribution centre in southern Rafah.

According to the Guardian, the renewed bombardment forced tens of thousands of Palestinians to evacuate eastern areas of northern Gaza City on Sunday in anticipation of the Monday offensive.

The attacks come as Israeli officials prepare to head to Washington for renewed ceasefire discussions led by the United States, which continues to supply military support to Israel amid the conflict.

Israel's Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer is expected to meet with U.S. officials later today to address the situation in Gaza and escalating tensions with Iran.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's security cabinet is convening to map out the next phase of the widening offensive.

Netanyahu faces allegations that he is deliberately delaying ceasefire talks to extend the war for political benefit, reflecting the complex relationship between domestic politics and military decisions in Israel.

Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, violence continues to escalate, worsening Gaza's humanitarian crisis and heightening instability across the region.

Since the start of Israel's military campaign in Gaza in October 2023, at least 56,531 Palestinians have been killed, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The latest figures report 28 more bodies recovered in the past 24 hours, along with 223 new injuries, bringing the total number of wounded to 133,642. Authorities warn that the true death toll is likely higher, as many bodies remain buried under rubble or in areas unreachable by rescue teams.

Following the collapse of a ceasefire in January, Israel resumed its assault on March 18, resulting in more than 6,200 additional deaths and over 21,000 injuries.

International scrutiny of Israel's actions has intensified, with the International Criminal Court issuing arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes.

Israel is also currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its conduct in Gaza.
