Nexus United beat Villa Roma FC 3-1 to win the Eastleigh Peace Cup in front of a packed crowd at the New Eastleigh Primary School grounds on Sunday afternoon.

The final, attended by hundreds of fans, was the culmination of a weeks-long tournament aimed at promoting unity and peace in the area. Nexus United dominated the match with a spirited performance, showing strong teamwork and clinical finishing.

Nexus took the lead early in the first half, capitalising on sustained pressure and sharp attacking play. Although Villa Roma responded with a goal to stay in the contest, Nexus struck again before the break to head into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

In the second half, Nexus controlled the tempo and sealed the win when Oscar scored the third goal, putting the result beyond doubt. The crowd, which included families and football lovers from across Eastleigh, erupted in celebration at the final whistle.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale was the chief guest at the event. In his remarks, he praised the organisers for using football to promote peace and pledged government support for local sporting initiatives. He also announced plans for an upcoming Super Cup tournament to continue investing in grassroots sports and peacebuilding efforts.

Nexus United captain Yusuf Khalid credited their victory to unity and perseverance.

“It’s been a tough journey from the group stages to this final, but we believed in ourselves and worked hard. Teamwork made the difference,” he said.

Assistant captain Bishare Abrail shared the same view.

“Today is a very happy day for us. We fought hard for this cup. Our mission and belief in it got us here,” he said.

The team’s coach, visibly emotional, thanked the players, fans, and organisers, calling the win a product of discipline and collective effort.

The Eastleigh Peace Cup has grown in popularity in recent years, offering young players a platform to showcase their talent while bringing the community together.
